Competitive rates coupled with an extremely thorough and meticulous service give both excellent value and return on investment. I understand the importance of preserving the author's voice whilst maintaining a mutually respectful relationship. I also do simultaneous line and copy edits (it's just the way my brain works!) so you'd get those two services for the price of one—an already impressive value made even better!

I offer a range of editorial services, including developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, proofreading, and more. Please visit the Services page for a full list and more details.

'Worth' is a very subjective concept and is something only you can decide. We all know what conventional wisdom says about getting what you pay for. This is no different with editing—in fact, I would say it is particularly pertinent. Just as you wouldn't risk your wedding or special occasion on an unskilled photographer, why take a chance with editing? Why put hours—and angst—into a project, only for it to fall at the last hurdle because of a poor edit? Don't skimp on an editor. Choose someone who will take you and your project seriously and will understand and respect all those hours you've spent poring over a keyboard or notebook. You might find someone who will do it cheaper—but will they do it better? Will they give you and your project the time you both deserve, and will the end result do justice to all your hard work? Ask for a free, no-obligation sample edit—I'll give you the opportunity to "try before you buy"!

Editing costs are worked out on a project-by-project basis, and are dependant upon the type of document and the level of editing required. I offer very competitive pricing. and will provide a detailed time/cost proposal once I have reviewed the document.
-
A project-tailored price is one that is agreed upon at the beginning of the project, and usually has an initial deposit with the balance payable on completion. This is a popular choice as you will know the costsf from the outset and it minimizes the risk of nasty surprises.

Line editing and copyediting are often used interchangeably, but there is a difference. Line editng is concerned primarily with questions of style and the way language is used to ensure flow and readability. Copyediting, on the other hand, focuses more on the mechanics of spelling, grammar, punctuation etc., and continuity and consistency.
-
It's often thought that these two are the same thing—but they're not. Proofreading is a final pre-press check to make sure things like formatting and layout (e.g. tables, lists etc) are correct, whereas copyediting is a more detailed line by line scrutiny of the text.
-
Turnaround time varies depending on the size and scope of the project. Sample edits—where requested—have a typical turnaround time of 48 hours. Full project timelines are decided upon during initial discussion(s).
-
Absolutely! I take privacy and security very seriously and you can rest assured that your documents will be for my eyes only. I back up the original files onto an external hard drive and each part of the process is kept in its own dedicated file. Once the project is concluded and the final monies received, all copies I hold are deleted.

In a word, no. Although I pride myself in giving each manuscript a thorough, precise, and careful review, the odd minor error may slip through. I'm human—and therefore not perfect— which is why I always strive for excellence, not perfection.

Don’t just take my word for it …
