This is me …
I am a freelance editor, author, and the owner of Spotlight Editing Services, based in Okotoks, Alberta.
I moved from the UK to Canada in 2005 and launched Spotlight Editing Services in early 2023, combining my love of language with a genuine enjoyment of helping writers make their work the best it can be. I work with authors at different stages of the writing process, with an approach that is thorough, collaborative, and respectful of each writer’s individual voice.
From January 2023 to March 2025, I served as Co-Chair of the Calgary branch of Editors Canada, and I remain involved in the Canadian editing and writing community. I also represented Editors Canada at the When Words Collide writers’ conference for three consecutive years, where I had the opportunity to meet and talk with writers, editors, and publishing professionals from across the country.
In 2026, I completed my first psychological suspense novel, Denial, which gave me an even greater appreciation for what it feels like to be on the other side of the editorial process. Writing and revising my own novel has reinforced something I’ve always believed as an editor: good editing should strengthen a writer’s work without taking ownership of it. My job is not to make your writing sound like mine. It’s to help it sound like the strongest version of yours.
Whether I’m working on fiction or non-fiction, I bring a careful eye, a practical approach, and an understanding that inviting someone into your writing requires a considerable amount of trust.
And, because no bio of mine would be entirely accurate without mentioning it, a good book and a cup of tea are rarely far away.
